Combustion of olive tree pruning pellets versus sunflower husk pellets at industrial boiler. Monitoring of emissions and combustion efficiency

چکیده
The aim of the present paper is to compare combustion results two solid biofuels suitable for industrial applications: olive tree pruning (OTP) pellets and sunflower husk (SH) pellets. former derives from thin prunings, along with leaves, whereas latter as a byproduct oil extraction industries. was performed in operating conditions at fixed bed biomass boilers (1.16 MWth capacity each) common flue gas stack used greenhouse heating. Combustion tests were boiler consecutive days. During first day, OTP combusted monitored emissions, second day reference fuel that normally plant (SH pellets) monitored. While combusting pellets, boiler’s performance found exhibit slightly worse, leading decrease 3.5% points efficiency compared SH Lower emissions CO NOx also observed while ash formation exhibited signs reduced slagging. Dust high both fuels, indicating particle emission abatement equipment should be installed facility.

Combustion of pellets from wheat straw
The alternative energy sources are more and more used for production of heat. Several new combustion devices allow co-firing of different fuels, like dendromass and phytomass. The article analyses combustion of wood and straw pellets in the same boiler. Measurements were realized in two automatic heat sources – one is adapted to burn pellets made from wood or straw and another allows only burni...
متن کاملMechanical durability and combustion characteristics of pellets from biomass blends.
Biofuel pellets were prepared from biomass (pine, chestnut and eucalyptus sawdust, cellulose residue, coffee husks and grape waste) and from blends of biomass with two coals (bituminous and semianthracite). Their mechanical properties and combustion behaviour were studied by means of an abrasion index and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), respectively, in order to select the best raw materials ...

متن کاملTechnical and Economic Analysis of the Combustion of Mixed Poultry Litter/ Olive Pomace Pellets for Energy Recovery
According to the recent European guide lines concerning the smart grids, the generation of electricity and heat from poultry derived wastes based on hightemperature thermal destruction techniques, i.e. combustion, could be a promising local waste management solution [1-5]. In this work we set out to investigate the technical and the economic feasibility of the combustion of poultry litter blend...
متن کاملIndustrial harvesting of olive tree pruning residue for energy biomass.
In Mediterranean countries, olive tree pruning residue represents an abundant source of energy biomass, still largely unexploited for lack of cost-effective harvesting technology. The authors tested two industrial pruning harvesters, capable of overcoming the limits of lighter units appeared in the past years. One of the machines was designed for application to a powerful farm tractor, whereas ...
